The increasing frequency and severity of wildfires are stark reminders that the challenges are growing. Recent years have shown how these unrelenting disasters stretch local and national resources to their limits. An example that drives our mission is the 2017 Redwood Valley fire. Entire mountainsides were engulfed in flames, skies turned gray with ash, and evacuation efforts stretched into the early morning hours to safeguard lives and communities. Similarly, the Los Angeles wildfires—among the most catastrophic in history—illustrated both the vulnerabilities communities face and the extraordinary dedication of local agencies in responding to such events.

We commend the tireless efforts of LA County, whose leadership during the wildfires exemplified the power of collaboration. From organizing large-scale evacuations to coordinating resources for recovery, their actions provided hope in a time of immense crisis. However, these events also highlight the pressing need for additional support, innovative strategies, and sustainable solutions to meet the growing demands of disaster response and recovery.
